Lillian Marie Textor, 95, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday evening, June 27, 2018, at Lexington Court Care Center. Her family would like to thank Dr. Freundlich and the entire staff at Lexington Court Care Center for the excellent care they provided to her in the last four years of her life as she struggled with dementia, a horrendous medical condition that, in the end, robbed her of her cognitive abilities, physical capabilities, and natural good looks.
Lilly, as she liked to be called from time to time, was born June 3, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Arthur Herman and Matilda Florence (Baker) Textor. During June of 1941, she turned 18, graduated from high school, and married her first husband, Thomas Ward Scholl. They were married 25 years and now will be next to each other for eternity. After her married life was over, she returned to her maiden name.
She was a faithful Christian woman who often attended two different churches on Sunday: St. John's United Church of Christ and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. As a young child, someone had told her that there was no God, but that night an angel came to her in a dream to assure her that there was a God. She enjoyed volunteering her time and gave generously to many charities.
Lillian loved working and was proud to be the first woman in the community to sell major appliances for commission for both J.C. Penney and Lazarus. In those days, it was considered to be a man’s job.
Lillian was an animal lover her entire life and liked to go horseback riding. She was an avid fan of the theatre and, for many years, had front-row seats at the Renaissance Theatre, where she enjoyed stage plays and the Miss Ohio pageant. She also frequented the Mansfield Playhouse. She liked playing Bingo and having lunch at the Senior Center in Lexington. She was a member of many clubs, including the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Parents without Partners, Welcome Wagon, and the Browns Backers. She had many collections, including sports memorabilia, figurines, and stuffed animals. She especially loved to dance, and enjoyed an occasional glass of Merlot. Lillian’s headstone, at her request, reads: "DANCED INTO THE ARMS OF JESUS."
She is survived by six children: Thomas W. (Jessie) Scholl II of Lexington, Dale L. Scholl of Gahanna, Renee A. (Howard) Linscott of Mansfield, Robert A. Scholl of Mansfield, Sandra M. Scholl of Mansfield, and Jacquelyn N. (Todd) Romer of Loveland; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Mimi Textor of Germany; and her niece, Erika Textor Moehring of Medina. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas W. Scholl; second husband, Jacques N. Chevrier; and her loving brother, Arthur Robert Textor.
A private family burial will be held at Lexington Cemetery, with Pastor Jared Ruari of St. John's United Church of Christ officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers or monetary contributions of any kind, your kind thoughts, prayers, and respect for others would be most appreciated.
The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
