
Mamie Lee Turner went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 15, 2010. Mrs. Turner was born February 27, 1922, in Warrior, Alabama, and lived for many years in Elkhorn, West Virginia. She moved to Mansfield several years ago to live with her daughter, Bettie Reed. In Elkhorn, Mrs. Turner worked as a hair stylist and volunteered much of her time as a caregiver and a talented cook. A very active member of the Upland Baptist Church, she had been named Mother of the Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a caring friend, and a woman of faith.
Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her parents, Tennie and William Perkins; her brother, Abraham Perkins; her sister, Ruby Hairston; and her husbands, Rev. Turner and Henry Cook. She is survived by her son, Louis Pat Cook of Hollis, New York; her grandchildren, Debra Richard Carter of Charlotte, North Carolina; David Ashlyn Reed of Lorton, Virginia; Michael Vicky Reed of Blacklick, Ohio; Peter Reed of Woodbridge, Virginia; and Joseph Jane Skaluba Reed of Mansfield. Other survivors include great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her special friends, Rev. and Mrs. Calloway.
Friends may call at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield on Friday, May 21, 2010, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services led by James Arata and James Arata II will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday May 22, 2010. Burial will be at a later date in Bluefield, West Virginia.
