Marie Wharton

Marie Mae Wharton, age 80, of 496 Wood Street, died Thursday morning March 21, 2002, at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Wharton was born October 17, 1921, in Mansfield, Ohio. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, including active membership in the Plus Ultra Class. She was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, a foster mother for 57 children, and a longtime member of a local chapter of T.O.P.S.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Wharton; a son, Roger Wharton of San Jose, California; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barb Wharton & Steven Shenker of Columbus, Ohio, and Nancilee Reed & Terry Blaney of Mt. Gilead, Ohio; a granddaughter, Jessica Reed; a brother, Robert Hawk of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a special sister-in-law and friend, Elizabeth Kriegel of Mansfield, Ohio.

Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. David Gilbert. Burial will be held in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made for special music to the Main Street United Methodist Church.
