
Martha Minich, age 95, died Monday evening, April 5, 2010, at Mifflin Care Center following a brief illness. Born Martha Roeger to Katherine and Friedrich Roeger in Gleichen, Germany, October 7, 1914, she was the youngest of twelve children. Martha came to the USA in 1936 at age 22 with her daughter, Lydia who was 16 months old at the time. She worked at the North American Knitting Mill, Haring Jewelry and retired from Therm-O-Disc after 22 years of employment. In February of 1961, she married Paul Minich. Martha, who was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, enjoyed quilting in her church quilting group. She was an avid gardener and expert cookie baker who regularly gifted her goodies with family and friends, especially at Christmas time.
She is survived by a grandson, Mike McDaniel; a great-grandson, Jason Shannon McDaniel of Posen, IL; a great-granddaughter, Sarah McDaniel of Manteno, IL; stepson, Ralph Minich; step daughter-in-law, Marilyn Minich of Mansfield; five step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews in Germany, Illinois and Missouri including Marian Blahnik, Elaine Pavkov, Fritz and Ken Haring of Mansfield, Paul Haring of Hawaii and Roger Haring of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; daughter, Lydia McDaniel; son-in-law, Robert McDaniel; grandson, Rob McDaniel; great-grandson, Justin McDaniel; stepson, David Minich; two sisters, Catherine Haring and Lydia Huebner; brother, Carl; four sisters and four brothers and her parents in Germany.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Gretchen Wagner will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ TV Ministry or the Humane Society of Richland County.
