

Mary Jo Smith, 82, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 28, 2018, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was born January 13, 1936, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Ray and Freida (Schmid) Ross.
She retired from Mansfield General Hospital where she worked in the dietary department. Mary deeply loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and freely shared that love with them. Her dog, Sammy, gave her many hours of company and unconditional love. Mary enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was fond of the arts and enjoyed reading, writing poetry, and playing the piano. She was a faithful member of Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church where she made many special friends. Her love for Christ was revealed in her church ministries, nursing home ministries, God's Joyful Hearts and Silver Saints Group. Mary loved life and felt she was blessed beyond her imagination as a Christian woman.
Mary is survived by five children, Janet Thacker of Mansfield, Earnest (Geniece) Ingold of Shelby, Glenda (Alden) Thibeau of Mansfield, Harold (Jan) Smith and Jerry (Susan) Smith, both of Butler; fifteen grandchildren, Rob Steiner, Ryan (Melody) Steiner, Benjamin Steiner, Holli (Matt) White, Heather (Merle) Wentz, Jared (Tina) Ingold, Steven Carver, Shannon Carver, Shawn Carver, Lisa (Alan) Flowers, Shawndi Dininger, Justin Smith, Kyann (Matt) Police, Mindy (Todd) Ward and Jen Coile; thirty-three great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Nancy) Ross of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Winston Ingold in 1987; second husband, Ed Smith in 2010; parents; grandson, Jericho DeMay in 2016; great-granddaughter, Sonya Kate White in 2012; and son-in-law, Ernest Thacker Jr. in 2015.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Dr. Bill Crank will be in the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with additional visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church.
