
Maxine Mitchell McMillen, 78, of Lucas, died Friday, September 14, 2001, at her home after a long illness. She was born April 26, 1923, in Lucas to Earl and Eulalia Darling Mitchell and was an area resident all her life. After the death of her mother at an early age, Lloyd and Jennie Andrews raised her. She remained at this residence until her death. Maxine graduated from Lucas High School in 1941 then worked at Bank One until her retirement. She and her husband managed Rainbow Gardens for over 30 years in Lucas, Ohio, where many friends were made and loved. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lucas for many years. She also was a life member of VFW Post #8586 Auxiliary in Perrysville, Women of the Moose #341 in Mansfield, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #16 in Mansfield. Maxine was a very social person whom everyone liked and was a big Cleveland Indians fan.
In addition to her husband, Gerald McMillen, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Benji and Margaret Banks of Loudonville, OH; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonny and Robert Derr of Perrysville; five grandchildren, Matthew Derr of Columbus, OH, Sara Derr of Lucas, Mitchell Derr of Perrysville, Karin Davis of Loudonville, and Kristi Taylor of San Antonio, TX; and; three step-children, Jeffrey McMillen, Cheryl Reynolds and Chris McMillen, all of Loudonville; five step-grandchildren, Danny and Samantha McMillen, Ronnie, Ryan and Tyler Reynolds, all of Loudonville; three sisters, Marietta Hammett and Norma Conner of Mansfield, and Linda Jerry Heimberger of Perrysville; numerous step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and good friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Banks, parents, Earl and Eulalia Mitchell, parents who raised her, Lloyd and Jennie Andrews, and one brother, M. LaVern Mitchell.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Monday, September 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with special services conducted by the VFW Women's Auxiliary at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Dr. Walter Schumann. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Union Cemetery in Perrysville. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice.
