
Michael 'Magic' Powell, 49, of Mansfield, died early Monday morning, April 10, 2006, at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Mansfield on March 29, 1957, to the late Carolyn Powell and Samuel Petty. Michael was employed with the City of Mansfield as a maintenance engineer. He was known as a man full of compassion, love, understanding and wisdom and was peacemaker to all-enemy to none. He had a love for sports and unique talent for basketball that earned him the nickname 'Magic'.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife, Tina Martin Powell; a daughter, Catherine; four sons, Michael, Matthew Heidi Jordan, Zachary and Adam; his father, Samuel Petty; three sisters, Shirley Powell, Ellen L.D. Lloyd, and Charity Powell; three brothers, Jeff Powell, Sam Andy Powell and Terry Stinnett; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn, grandmother, and several uncles and aunts.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Thursday, April 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
