

Miriam E. Kurtz Ludwig Leiter, 94, of Mansfield died Monday morning, January 6, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Leiter was born June 21, 1908 in Lucas, Ohio to Thomas and Clara Reed Kurtz. She was an area resident all her life, graduating from Lucas High School in 1928. Miriam was employed at the Jack Factory in Lucas, Shelly's Chocolates, Woolworth's, Westinghouse, Fisher Body Cafeteria and as a self-employed rug weaver. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church where she attended Sunday school and was previously involved in the Work Day Ladies, Friendly Friday's Visitation Group, Phoebe Group, Lexington Senior Citizens and Ontario Felions. Her hobbies included quilting, embroidery, crafts, gardening, and visiting with friends and relatives. She also served as a visitation volunteer to local nursing homes.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul W. and Peggy J. Ludwig of Mansfield; a daughter, Josephine Pipes of Mansfield; a son-in-law, Cecil Worner of Mansfield; six stepchildren, Bernard Leiter and Homer Leiter of Ashland, Rev. Donald Leiter of Pennsylvania, Glorene Shenberger of Columbus, Ohio, Marie Swineford and Sara Cole of Georgia; eleven grandchildren; seventeen step-grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Willis G. Ludwig in 1961; second husband, Harold L. Leiter in 1993; daughter, Ruth Ludwig Worner; three brothers, Caleb, Daniel and Joseph Kurtz; two sisters, Martha Pifer and Edith Harry; and an infant sister.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Wednesday, January 8 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First English Lutheran Church, Thursday at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Rev. Cloyd E. Kress and Pastor Andrew Jones. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church.
