
Paul William Conrad, 94, of Mercer Island, Washington, formerly of Mansfield, OH, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at his son's home. Born December 14, 1914 in Loudonville, Ohio, he was the son of Albert Edward and Caroline Weber Conrad. After graduating from Loudonville High School, Paul enlisted and served during WWII in the U.S. Army. Most know Paul as co-owner and operator of Rex Gilbert Auto Electric. He was an active member of First English Lutheran Church participating in many activities such as the Wednesday Lunch for the Indigent and Sunday School. He was a member of the Venus Lodge #152 F & AM, Valley of Columbus 32nd Degree, Baku Grotto, and Mansfield Men's Garden Club. Paul was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Margaret.
He is survived by one son, Dr. Paul Suzan Conrad of Mercer Island, Washington; one daughter, Rosemary William Nowak of Lancaster, New York; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret DeWitt Conrad, grandson, Luke S. Conrad, sisters, Elsie Kudika Conrad, Catherine Hutchinson Conrad, Sara E. Solomon Conrad, Lucille Walters Conrad, Pauline Brendel Conrad, and brothers, Albert Conrad, Kenneth Conrad, and Richard Conrad.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Masonic services will be held at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at First English Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Cloyd E. Kress and Rev. Paul L. Larsen. Military graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45229 or the Wed. Lunch for the Indigent at First English Lutheran Church.
