
Richard D. Witchey, Sr., 88, of Mansfield, died early Tuesday morning, October 11, 2005, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. Born August 15, 1917, in Sioux City, Iowa, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Lorraine Duncan Witchey. He was a graduate of Ontario High School and retired as owner and operator of Mansfield Screw Machine Products Company. Mr. Witchey was an avid harness racer, owning, training, and racing several horses. He was a member of Pandora Club, Mansfield Men's Garden Club and the U.S.T.A. Trotting Association. He enjoyed being with his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren at the farm.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janet Bachelder Witchey; three sons, Richard Jr. Louise Witchey of Reno, Nevada, Robert Dee Witchey of Mansfield, and Ronald Ceci Witchey of Placentia, California; two stepchildren, Don Darlene Daugherty of Ontario and Ron Chris Daugherty of Ashland; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Tupps.
Friends may call Thursday, October 13 from 5-8 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Dr. Steven B. Burggraf of First Alliance Church.
