

Robert W. Gilpatrick, 81, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 8, 2011 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He was born April 7, 1930 in South Fork, Pennsylvania to the late Paul Harry and Inzie (Yoder) Gilpatrick. Bob retired from Sears after 21 years, where he was employed as a mechanic. An all around handyman, he enjoyed working on anything mechanical. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Bellville American Legion Post #535. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Verna (Small) Gilpatrick; four daughters, Gail (Gary) Storie of Perrysville, Ruth Sutter of Shelby, Denise “Dee” (Fred) Ward and Joyce (Mike) Fleming, all of Bellville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters of Pennsylvania; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Elmo, Paul Jr. and Marvin Gilpatrick; and a son-in-law, James R. Sutter.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Military honors will be presented following the service by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad. Friends and family may visit beginning at 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
