
Roy E. Workman, 91, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Columbus. Born October 20, 1917 in Elm Grove, Pennsylvania, he was the son of David and Blanche Lint Workman. Formerly from Mansfield, Roy retired from the Mansfield Water Treatment Plant as Chief Operator in 1982. A veteran of WWII, he was with the 28th Infantry Division, and proudly served at the Battle of the Bulge. Roy was a member of the VFW Post #1754 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and the Mansfield Moose Lodge #341.
He is survived by one son, Roy Sharon Workman; grandsons, Rick Workman and Philip Carrie Workman; granddaughter, Tara Brian Griffith; great-grandsons, Donovan, Andrew, and Tyler Griffith, and Carter Workman; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends, especially his most-loved friends at The Lincoln Lodge, where he resided. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; brother, Walter; and sisters, Edna, Hazel, and Anna Mae.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio conducted by Deacon Russ Shoemaker. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roy's name to your local hospice.
