

Born February 20, 1930 in Shelby, Ohio, she was the daughter of Anthony and Amelia (Mahl) Metzger. She graduated from St. Francis Academy in Joliet, Illinois, and was a 1959 graduate of St. Francis College in Joliet, Illinois, AB (Cum Laude). She also attended Loyola University, Chicago City Junior College, Illinois Institute of Technology, Notre Dame University and DePaul University, Chicago with a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling in 1967. Mrs. Nichols was the guidance counselor for juniors and seniors at Ontario Schools, retiring after 25 years of service and had also taught at St. Peter’s High School. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and was very active within St. Peter’s, volunteering with such projects as Feed the Needy, the garage and bake sales, funeral dinners and took Communion to shut ins. She also volunteered for Richland County Probate Court and was Treasurer of Richland County Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by a sister, Joannice Metzger of Maple Heights, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oka Nichols in 1985; five brothers: George, Albert, Otto, Wilfrid and Edward; and six sisters: Mary, Freida, Frances, Lucille and Rosemary.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario, where a vigil service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church celebrated by Father Tom McQuillen.
