
Valerie M. Dorman Hitchcock, 83, of Mansfield died Tuesday evening, November 4, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. She was born August 31, 1920 in Lowell, Massachusetts to John L. and Mary Parker Dorman. She was an area resident all her life. Valerie and her husband, Walter, owned and operated Walt Hitchcock Plumbing. A graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Valerie also worked for many years at People's Hospital and was a MedCentral Hospice volunteer. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where she also volunteered her time. Valerie was a member of V.F.W. Post #3494 and American Legion Post #16. She loved to play Bingo, and was an avid card player.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Rita Hitchcock of Mansfield and Gary and Jan Hitchcock of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tamara and Tim Gaumond of Rockford, Illinois, Craig Hitchcock of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Kelly and Dennis Strahm of Marysville, Ohio, and Kipp and Cheryl Hitchcock of Orient, Ohio; six great-grandchildren, Olivia Gaumond, Timothy Gaumond, Kristopher Carrocci, Benjamin Carrocci, Chantee' Blair and Amanda Blair; and numerous relatives and good friends. Her husband, Walter C. Hitchcock and parents, John and Mary Dorman preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Friday, November 7 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor David Gilbert and Dr. Blake Wagner. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church.
