Virgil William Davies, 94, of Mansfield, died July 6, 2015. Born June 15, 1921 in Vancouver, WA, he was the son of Jehu Joseph and Iva Pearl (Johnson) Davies. Virgil served in the United States Army during World War II from May 1943 to January 1946, having spent time in the Philippines, New Guinea, and Australia. He went to work for Pittsburgh Glass Works in Mount Vernon, retiring in July 1977. Virgil loved the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and The Ohio State Buckeyes but most of all, loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Gerri Jewell Davies; children, Pat Dinsmore of Powell, Ohio, Pam Goodman of Lexington, and Karen Carter of Mansfield; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by a son, Larry Davies; three sisters; and one brother.
A private memorial service will be held. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
