Walter D. Schroeder, 85, of Mansfield died Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at his home. Mr. Schroeder was born July 28, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan and was a Mansfield area resident most of his life. He retired from General Motors where he worked in the Quality Control Department. Walter was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by a sister, Betty Jane Turner of Mansfield; brother, Melvin R. Schroeder of Leesburg, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Daniel Sr. and Emma Hess Schroeder and a sister, Lillian.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors one hour prior to graveside services that will be held Thursday, December 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Mansfield Cemetery. Richland County Burial Detail will conduct military services at the graveside. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
