
William Richard Joyce, 94 of Ontario died Friday January 12, 2001 at MedCentral Mansfield following a brief illness. Mr. Joyce was born December 27, 1906 in Jewell Ridge, Virginia and had been a Mansfield area resident since 1953. He was a retired coal miner and residential building contractor. Mr. Joyce was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He faithfully attended many churches throughout the area.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gladys Taylor Joyce; two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlotte Joyce McKown and her husband Gerald and Elaine Joyce Jackson, all of Ontario; seven grandchildren, Karen Breedlove Pat Etzwiler, Taylor Joyce, Theresa Lynn Jackson, Donna Jackson Bud May, Lori Jackson Larry Stauffer, Melanie Jackson Charlie Brinegar, and Steve Margaret McKown; nine great-grandchildren, Adele Mohler, Meri Etzwiler, Erin, Casey, Daniel, Jenna and Julianne Stauffer, Charlie and Rachel Brinegar, and Kristy McKown; two great-great-grandchildren, Nick Etzwiler and Emelia Casey; and one sister, Lillian Joyce Griffin of Danville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington and Mary Elizabeth Smith Joyce; his son, Curtis William Joyce; his daughter, Norma Darlene Joyce; and a number of brothers and sisters.
Friends may call on Sunday January 14, 2001 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors where funeral services will be conducted on Monday January 15, 2001 at 1:00p.m. conducted by the Rev. Ralph Barlow of the Apostolic Tabernacle of God and assisted by Col. Bud May. Interment will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park.
