Aubrey Earl “Duffy” Grant was born on August 24, 1948 in Dallas, Texas and was one of 4 children in his family. Duffy graduated from Sunset High School in 1966 and attended Arlington State College, now known as University of Texas-Arlington. In 1968 he met his wife Marcia Christine “Chris” Mabrey Grant and they were married on October 10, 1969. Duffy worked as a purchaser in the aerospace industry in both Dallas and Fort Worth for all of his career and was respected and loved by all of his coworkers. In 1988 Duffy and Chris moved to Mansfield, Texas and raised their family there. Duffy enjoyed watching Dallas sports, travel shows (Rick Steves was his go-to), old westerns, and history documentaries from the comfort of his recliner. The art of online shopping and finding the best deal was fine-tuned and mastered by Duffy. QVC and Amazon never had a better friend! He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music but his favorites were gospel (especially The Gaithers), symphonic, and country. The kitchen, cooking, and recipe sharing brought Duffy comfort and happiness. Duffy was always very proud of his tuba playing abilities and shared the love of the tuba with his children and granddaughter. Duffy loved a good pun, and dad jokes were a regular occurrence in almost every conversation. Duffy’s family were always important to him and his kindness and gentleness were felt by everyone he loved.
In 2015 Chris and Duffy retired to Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Duffy loved to watch the Bluebonnets and the Hill Country deer from his picture window. He would tell you that he could watch the hill country outside his window for hours and be perfectly content. Diet Coke, vanilla and chocolate Blue Bell ice cream, and any sort of bread were his friends and his love of hot dogs was epic. Duffy always had sense of happiness to just be a part of the moment and share in the joy around him.
Duffy is preceded in death by his wife Marcia Christine Mabrey Grant, parents Aubrey D. Grant and Clara Katherine Hock Grant Cowan, step-father Kenneth F. Cowan and his step-brother James “Jimmy” Cowan.
