Carlton Dean Smith of Weatherford, Texas, passed away on April 23, 2019 while working with Stantec on the Red Rocks Dam in Pella, Iowa. The son of Lincoln L. Smith and Geraldine Smith, he was born November 1, 1954 and grew up in Round Mountain, Texas.
Carlton attended high school in Johnson City, Texas, graduating in 1973 first in his class and as Valedictorian, and then went on to The University of Texas, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1978. He was a civil engineer for 40 years in the private sector and federal government overseeing the construction, inspection, operation and maintenance of dams, hydroelectric power plants and water resources. Prior to the Red Rocks Dam project, Carlton worked with MWH at the Cannelton Locks and Dam in Hawesville, Kentucky and with the Bureau of Reclamation projects at Federal Center in Denver, Colorado, Parker Dam in Parker Dam, California, Headgate Rock Dam in Parker, Arizona, Brantley Dam in Carlsbad, New Mexico and Choke Canyon Dam in Three Rivers, Texas.
Carlton is survived by his wife, whom he married in 1983, in Marble Falls, Texas, Donna J. Smith, his children, Collin D. Smith and Shelby J. Smith, all of Weatherford, Texas. He is also survived by his brothers, Lloyd Smith and wife Farrisa, of Georgetown, Texas, Barton Smith and wife Joyce, of Round Mountain, Texas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Carlton was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Clements Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel, Marble Falls, Texas.
