The family moved to Yeager, Oklahoma in the 1920’s. Duroy graduated from Yeager High School. On January 16, 1941, he enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged October 10, 1945 as a Corporal from the 120th Medical Battalion. On April 1, 1943 he married Mildred McKenzie and shared 51 years of marriage until her death in 1994. He was a farmer in Oklahoma, then left farming to work in the oilfields in Aztec, New Mexico, then to Odessa, Texas in the 1960’s where he lived and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for JP Bum Gibbons and Connor Construction Company . He later worked as a warehouseman for Triple M Oil Tool Inc until his retirement in 1985.
Duroy stayed busy helping neighbors, doing car repairs until his health declined. He had a strong work ethic and was a man of good moral character. He paid cash for all purchases and was a man of his word. Duroy accepted the Lord as his savior and was baptized in the Bible Free Will Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas at the age of 84. In the last years while at Northwood Health Care Center in Marble Falls, Texas he (aka PawPaw) kept everyone entertained with his quick witted comebacks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Mildred, grandson Rodney Bain, son-in-law Carol Bain, and sister Kathleen Greenwood.
Survivors include his daughters Vena Hughes and husband Jerry Hughes of Odessa, TX, Vera Bain of Owasso, OK and Valera Snodgrass of Marble Falls, TX; grandchildren Becky and Robert Stowe, Russell and Denise Bain, Brent and Carey Hughes, and Karen Snodgrass; great grandchildren Jerry Armbrister, Tyler Armbrister, Sloan and Lindsey Bain, Morgan Bain, Megan Bain and Kenneth Hughes; sisters Vada Meadors of Holdenville, Ok, Betty Ree Horn of Seminole, OK and brother Oral Greenwood of Holdenville, OK.
