A proud resident of Spicewood for 20 years, he was born in St. Louis in 1942, graduating from St. Louis University, with a short interruption for service in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in San Antonio. Over a decorated 40-year business career focused in computing, he served in senior executive roles with Monsanto, Fisher Controls, Kohler, ACCO Brands, Viking Office Products and Hart Schaffner Marx.
Mr. Murphy is survived by Jeannette, his wife of more than 27 years; his two children, Chris (Kourtney) of Dallas and Alissa of St. Louis; his twin grandchildren Kaden and Cole of Dallas; his sisters Mary King (Dan) of St. Louis and Noreen Petry (Mike) of Cincinnati; his brothers Jerry (MaryJo) of Chicago and Frank (Beth Ann) of St. Louis; and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews. His father, Joseph, his mother, Marie, and his older brother, Daniel — all of St. Louis — precede him in death.
After first visiting the Texas Hill Country during his stint in the service and later business travel, Mr. Murphy became enamored with the Austin area – he enjoyed spending the last two decades of his life here. An avid sports fan, he also enjoyed fishing, sailing and traveled the world for business and pleasure. Summers were reserved for regular trips to cities with extended family, primarily to see his beloved St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cubs! In his final years and in failing strength from treatments 20 years prior, he enjoyed twice-daily walks with dogs Hudson and Saucy on the cliffs above Lake Travis.
Arrangements in Austin and St. Louis are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Highland Lakes Canine Rescue.
