Nina Levi Lindsey

Nina was the third daughter of Levi and Anna Preston Underwood. Nina’s dad, Levi Bean Underwood, drove cattle up the Chisholm Trail twice. To this union four daughters were born: Bessie, Kate, Nina and Grace. The family lived in Florence. Nina went to school in Florence through the 8th grade, when the family moved to Stilman Valley where Nina and her sisters helped Levi and Anna farm and ranch. Nina enjoyed ranch life. She liked to race horses with her sister, Grace.

Nina eloped with Dock Lindsey and they were married the 9th day of June 1928. Nina and Dock went to Stradford, Texas and worked for Long Tom Lindsey, her father-in-law, for one year. It would take two weeks by wagon team to go from Florence to Stradford. It would take three days by Model T Ford. Nina and Dock came back and farmed in Stilman Valley for her dad.

To this union, five sons and on daughter were born: Clyde, Tom, Lyndell, Preston, Anna Joyce, and Doyle Wayne known as Pete.

Nina moved to Marble Falls in 1957. She worked for Matthis Brothers Factory for several years. She worked for Dr. Sheppard, Brown Cleaners and Laundry Matt until she retired at the age of 80.

In 2000 to 2001, she lived with her son, Lyndell and daughter-in-law Cathy while she healed from a broken leg and arm. She received the most excellent care while she was in their home.

Nina moved back to her home in Marble Falls in July 2001. She lived by herself until she was 99 years old, and then moved back to Lyndell and Cathy’s home. They gave her the most excellent care again.

She was baptized in the Church of Christ at an early age and remained faithful all her life, as long as her health permitted. Marble Falls Church of Christ celebrated Nina’s 100th birthday with her in the Church building in Marble Falls.

Nina lived with Lyndell until January 2011. Nina entered into Bertram Nursing and Rehab Center on January 25, 2011. This is the best nursing home in the whole wide world of Texas. Nina received the most excellent care that could be given.

She went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 29, 2013, at the age of 103 years, 9 months and 18 days. In her words, “I’m nearly 104!”

Nina is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Clyde & Patsy Lindsey of Mooreland, OK, Tom & Carol Lindsey of Florence, TX, Lyndell & Cathy Lindsey of Salado, TX and Preston & Dorothy Lindsey of Lampasas, TX. Also by thirteen grandchildren Sharon McGuire, Ronnie Lindsey, Randy Lindsey, Carla Slaughter, Alan Lindsey, Darrell Lindsey, Kay Lynn Perkins, Alford Lindsey, Terry Day, Lowell Lindsey, Doyle Lindsey, Nina May Goodwin and L.G. Lindsey. Nina also is survived by nephews and nieces Wendell and Glenda Jackson and children, Darrell and Gailya Jackson and children, Joan and David Batten and children, Donald and Linda Jackson, Winona Bufford.

She has 26 great grandkids, 14 great great grandkids, and a lot of distant kin and a host of friends.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents Levi & Anna Underwood, her sisters and their husbands Bessie & Sam McCann, Kate & Bert Jackson, Grace & Lee Jackson, her daughter Anna Joyce and her son Doyle known as Pete, nephews Edwin and Kenneth Jackson and niece Dorothy Brown.

When Nina could no longer drive Bob Sears & his wife would take her to church on Sunday morning, the Lindsey Family thanks you.

Visitation will be Thursday January 2, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls, Texas.

Service will be held Friday January 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls, Texas.
