

Ray and his twin brother, Roy, joined the US Navy on their 17th birthday and Ray attended training at Southwestern University. He served on the U.S.S. Springfield in the South Pacific during World War II as a LTJG. Upon his return, he graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. He went into the oil business in South Texas where he had a career with Harkins & Company as President and Chairman of the Board. Ray served as President of the International Association of Drilling Contractors and was Chairman of the Board of Alice National Bank. He was recognized by Texas Tech University as a Distinguished Engineer and a Distinguished Alumnus. Ray served in many capacities at First United Methodist Church in Alice, Texas. He was a lifelong golfer and a licensed pilot. Ray will be remembered as humble, benevolent, loving and patriotic.
Survivors include his wife Sue (Lawson) Butler of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, daughter Amy Butler Lightfoot & husband Ron of Kerrville, Texas, granddaughters Ashley Dietz Inscoe & husband Turner of Birmingham, Alabama and Ainsley Nicole Dietz of Austin, Texas, grandson Ryan Ray Butler of Corpus Christi, Texas, great grandsons James Turner Inscoe, Jr. and Vann Butler Inscoe, both of Birmingham, Alabama, twin brother Roy Butler of Horseshoe Bay, Texas , daughter-in-law Laura Butler of Corpus Christi, Texas and sister-in-law Jennie Lawson of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, brother Keith Butler, son Kelly Brent Butler, sister-in-law Lou Butler and brother-in-law Bernie Lawson.
Memorial service will be Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Church at Horseshoe Bay with the Reverends Pete Christy and Johnny White officiating.
