Robert Jackson (“RJ”) Hicks was born on March 9, 1933 in Red Lick, Texas, one of ten children. He is survived by his wife Claudia Hicks, children Bobby Hicks (wife Becky), Allen Hicks (wife Debbie), Doug Hicks (wife Michele), Debbie Minor (husband Derry), 7 grandchildren (Robert, Tyler, Daniel, Kimberley, Brian, Devan, Adam), and 6 great-grandchildren (Collin, Jacob, Cason, Madeline, Bellamy, and Kylar, with #7 on the way), his sister Betty Jo Crumpton, and brother Carl Hicks,
On March 2, 2022, he made the move to his eternal heavenly home, where he joined his parents Clara and Robert Isaac Hicks, and siblings Eula Jean Hicks, Richard Hicks, Nellie Sagers, Novelle Mitchell, Evy White, Joan Harmon, and James Hicks. We can only imagine the joy of this family reunion!
RJ grew up in East Texas and married the love of his life, Claudia, in 1951. They lived in Texarkana, Houston, and Wimberley before retiring to the Texas Hill Country in 1996. RJ enjoyed a diverse career background including sales, Christian school administrator, running a dress shop and a gas station, prison jailer, and his most fulfilling position as prison Chaplin. He loved introducing the men to Jesus and seeing them dedicate their lives to the Lord and become baptized.
Second only to Jesus, RJ loved his family and his precious wife of 71 years, Claudia. He would share their love story with anyone and everyone, and it was a beautiful testimony of a Christian marriage.
The Hicks Family will miss RJ very much, but we have great joy in knowing he’s gone ahead to the place prepared for him in Heaven, and we will see him once again.
