
Vernon Lee Brown, age 85 of Buchanan Dam, Texas, opened his arms for his heavenly father as he passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011 with his family and friends by his side under the watchful eyes of Odyssey Hospice and Granite Mesa, Marble Falls, Texas
Vernon was born February 21, 1926, in Uvalde, Texas to Charles Day Brown and Lessie Mae McMains.
He married Alma Waldine (Dolly) Maples on November 15, 1951 in Columbus, Texas.
Vernon served his country in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a torpedo man on a destroyer. After leaving the Navy he worked at Southern Pacific for several years. Vernon started at Dow Chemical Company Oct 30, 1950 and retired from Dow in 1982.
Dolly and Vernon lived in Velasco in 1950 for 1½ years, and then moved to their home on Southhampton in Angleton where they stayed until 1984. After retirement, they moved to Buchanan Dam to enjoy the easy life.
Vernon’s hobbies included hunting, fishing with family and friends, camping with his family and playing cards.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dolly,son, Terry Lee Brown of Angleton, TX., son Jerry Keith Brown, daughter in law Lori Brown of Conroe TX., grandchildren: Cameron Keith Brown of Conroe, TX, Shannon Elaine Brown of Sugarland TX., brother -in -law Thomas G Maples of San Antonio, TX., brother- in- law Alfred L Maples and wife Dorothy of Smithwick, TX.,Sister- in -law Nola Brown of Waleska, GA.,numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews that loved him very much, special Neighbor, Pat Pucik and his beloved cat Sarah Jane and dog Susie. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Leo Maurice Brown, Lora Nell Brown, Paul Curtis Brown,and Glenn Brown.
Visitation will be Wednesday June 21, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm.
Services will be at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls Texas on June 23, 2011 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Bluffton Cemetery in Tow, TX.
