Albert Vincent D’Aniello, age 87, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on April 8, 2026. The youngest of 11 children, Albert was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1938. Upon graduating from high school, Albert entered the family printing business where he trained to become a linotype operator. After mastering the trade, he worked for the New Haven Register (newspaper) and later for Southern New England Telephone Company (publisher of telephone books) where he held rolls as both linotype operator and proofreader.
During his printing career, he was an active member of the International Typographical Union (ITU), the primary American union for newspaper and commercial printers. He held several prominent board positions, including vice president, and devoted his time to issues involving the health benefits and welfare of union members.
As the advent of computers deemphasized the need for linotype operators, Albert began considering new careers in the early 1980’s. He worked briefly in production design for a small non-profit organization on the Connecticut shoreline before entering culinary school. After achieving certification as a working chef, he was hired by the Hospital of Saint Rapheal in New Haven Connecticut to oversee line cooks and assist in the preparation of meals for both patients and the hospital cafeteria. He also ran a small catering business, competed in various Olympic style cooking competitions, and was a contributing chef for the Connecticut Shoreline Culinary Treasures and Favorite Recipes from the Nutmeg State cookbooks.
Albert retired in 1994 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his wife, Ada, in 1996 to be closer to their only daughter, Antoinette and her family. He spent many hours baby-sitting, playing with and attending his grandsons’ various athletic events, school plays, piano recitals and band concerts. He’d had plenty of practice in the cheering section, having been his daughter’s biggest fan throughout her youth and collegiate athletic career.
Albert spent his later days walking his dog, Reese, gardening, and cooking. He kept his mind sharp with brain teasers, reading historical non-fiction and mystery novels, watching documentaries, and playing cards with his wife. To the end, and above all else, Albert loved God and his family. Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Geatano and Agnes (Virgulto) D’Aniello; his siblings Paulina, Rafaela, Elenore, Nicolina (“Debbie”), George, Joseph, Stanley, Ciro, Raymond, and Geatano, Jr; his niece Paula Lupi and nephews, Joe, Lewis, and Joe Juliano. He is survived by, his loving wife of 65 years, Ada; his daughter, Antoinette D’Aniello Datoc (Pat) and grandsons, Christian Datoc (Cailyn) of Washington, DC and Jared Datoc (Claudia) of Chamblee, GA.
The Family will receive guests between the hours of 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday, April 15 at H.M. Patterson & Son, 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta.
