This is a time to reflect the great impact Carl had on my life.  He was a solid presence and I miss him.

I can’t believe it’s been a year since your passing. I miss our phone calls just to check in and talk about whatever sport was in season. The pic above is a family thing and that is what you were all about. I miss you big bro!

Just read about Carl’s passing.  I knew Carl when I worked for Blue Cross in NY and later in the Syracuse operation. He was always so helpful.  I eventually moved to Marietta and Carl followed later on with a job at Worldspan.   I enjoyed our lunches and his support.  God Bless him and his family.

Carl, touched so many lives in the very best way with his sense of humor and kind demeanor. We were just laughing a couple of weeks ago and talked about his trip to New York to see Ashley and Caleb. He was so proud! We both said we missed New York, but did not want to move back. He was such a great friend and also an old colleague when we worked together at Worldspan.  He supported my son’s bbq business and loved ribs! He and my husband could talk sports forever!

I've know Carl for more than 55 years.   From traveling around the streets of Queens New York playing basketball to falling asleep on the subways after a night out.  He was like  a big brother to me even through I was a year older.  I could call carl any time of the day or night.  He was always there.   This past summer Carl, Ashley and Caleb came to visit me in Hampton, Va. We drove down to Buckroe Beach and reminisced about our past. Much laughter took place as we remembered when we were  back in the day.   My  friend will be truly missed knowing, without a doubt that he is with the Lord.  What a great place to be.

Carl, you were my Benalytics brother and you will forever hold a special place in my heart. You were truly a teacher and you knew benefits like the back of your hand.  You were always positive and had kind words to say about those around you. You loved your family tremendously and I will always remember the stories you shared about your grandson and how we would go online to find those special gifts he wanted for Christmas.  The support you gave your daughter is truly a testament of your love.  You had the opportunity to meet both of my children and I thank you for the nuggets of wisdom you would share with them and they still recall some of the things you shared with them from basketball history to preparing themselves financially.  I remember how proud you were to learn that James was starting college and the high hopes you had for him and the way you would pack up your bag and sign off from
work when you and Chris had an engagement to attend or just simply hanging out.  I remember how you would let me know you would be driving to New York to hang out with your brothers.

Dear Carl,

We met nearly 40 years ago when I started working at Empire BCBS.  You were kind to me from the first time we met.  In 1989, when I suffered a tragic loss, luckily for me, your desk was right behind me and you were constantly talking to me and encouraging me to move beyond the grief.  Then one day you told me to run in the Corporate Challenge. I said “Carl the deadline to enroll has passed and i’ve  never run in my life.”  You said you know I am the mayor of Empire and I’ll get us in and you did and so my running career was launched which probably saved my life.  We went on to run many races together and forge a lifetime friendship.  I know the names of all your family members, remember the day Ashley was born and how much you loved her.  I know about Daryl and Lewis and their children and Chris.    I know your middle name is Stanley and your mother named you Stanley after the doctor who delivered you and I always addressed my holiday cards to you as “Carl Stanley Curtiss” just to kid you.  We shared so many conversations and went through so much together.  In our last text, you told me that you met Magic and kiddingly I asked did you shoot any hoops with him, you said no I’m not good any more, I said once a great player always a great player to which you answered as you said many times “Marathon Runners are Made not Born” to which i answered “ “You are the greatest and you will always be up there with the greatest of all time”.  This was my last words to Carl.  Carl will miss you always.  Arlene

Also about your daughter and grandson and how you wanted to make sure your grandson got his Jordon’s. I remember you taking off especially for them and it always gave me such a great feeling seeing how much you cared and loved your family. Even the pictures you shared of your brothers and how you would tell me stories about them and how you truly loved your family. Thank you so much for being the light! Thank you for being the rock solid presence through all of these years.   Both by example and deed, you enriched my life.  When my life could have turned for the worse, your example pulled me away from a negative path.  Literally you saved the day.  When my jeep broke down on my way to college (in Montgomery, AL), you drove (at 0-dark-30) down somewhere past Lagrange and spoke w me calming me down until the tow truck came.  Rest In Peace uncle.

You fought the good fight, hope you are resting peacefully with your feet up, watching the games on a big screen!
