

Charles Edwin Hart Jr., age 92, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Born on June 28, 1932, in Macon, Georgia, he led a life devoted to family, faith, and service to his country and community.
Charles graduated from Lanier High School in 1950, where he served as Captain of the ROTC Band. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercer University in 1954. Following his graduation, he received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and attended the Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. It was there that he met Nona Marie Edwards. After completing his training, he was stationed in Germany for two years. Upon returning, he married Nona in the Old Post Chapel at Fort Sill.
After relocating to Atlanta, Charles pursued an MBA at Emory University. The couple then moved to Macon, Georgia, where Charles worked at Fickling & Walker Mortgage Company. He later served as President of the Mortgage Bankers Association from 1973 to 1974 and as President of the United Cerebral Palsy Center of Macon from 1975 to 1976. In 1979, the mortgage loan department was sold to Trust Company (now SunTrust Mortgage), prompting the family to move to Marietta, Georgia. There, Charles joined Eastside Baptist Church and worked as Vice President at SunTrust Mortgage until his retirement in 1995.
Charles also dedicated 25 years to the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of Major. He was a long-time member of the Gideons International, serving as their treasurer, and considered himself fortunate to have served the Lord alongside many Christian friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edwin Hart Sr.; his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Nona Marie Hart and son, Stephen Darrell Hart. He is survived by sons, David Hart and Michael Hart; daughter, Susan Greene; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Charles will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Eastside Church, located at 2450 Lower Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30068. A funeral service will follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. Burial will take place at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, following the service at 1:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gideons International in Charles's name.
