Donald Glenn Loggins, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 81 of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2020. He was born November 21, 1939 in Trion, Georgia to Joe Glenn and Mary Idell (Williams) Loggins. After the death of Joe Glenn, his mother married his loving stepfather, Thomas “Tom” H. Copeland, and they resided in Lafayette, Georgia.
Don ”Duck” graduated in 1957 from Lafayette High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball while working in the family restaurant, the Mars Café. He then served in the United States Air Force for 4 years spending time in Turkey before his honorable discharge at the rank of Airman 2nd Class. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1966 and completed law school at UGA in 1969. He practiced law in Summerville and Dalton, Georgia for 20 years before moving to Atlanta, Georgia to finish out his legal career, retiring in 2014.
Don’s lifelong love of his Dawgs was only superseded by his deep and enduring love for his children and grandchildren. He cherished Georgia football, being with his children and grandchildren, and fishing with his son Thomas as well as his best friend, John Frey, on Guntersville Lake primarily in April and October. Don was quick-witted and always good- hearted. He loved history, was a voracious reader of historical non-fiction, knew more history of Atlanta than has ever been written, and would debate politics with any willing participant.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Bobbie Jo (Loggins) Everett, Harlin Loggins, and Lavaughn Loggins. He is survived by Dianne Loggins Leveridge (Philip) of Jamestown, Kentucky and North Hutchinson Island, Florida, granddaughter Mary, Jennifer Loggins Gallagher (John) of Sunnyside, Washington, grandchildren Matthew, Michael, Patrick, Kaitlyn Rose, Emma Grace, Andrew (Jolissa), and great-granddaughter Isabella Marie; Thomas Glenn Loggins (Amy) of Marietta, Georgia, grandchildren Jacob, Samuel, and Joshua; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Hicks) Loggins and Alice (Lewis) Loggins; nieces Lynn Loggins Murkerson and Rita Loggins; and nephews Darrall Loggins, Chris Everett, Jeff Everett, and Kenneth Loggins.
The children would like to thank Dr. Joseph Micca and staff of ManorCare-Marietta for their care and support of their father. Jennifer and Thomas would also like to acknowledge their mother Patricia La Brosse and step-father Doug Lahasky for all of their love, care, and support of them and Don through the years.
Don felt strongly that we should take care of those who are struggling. During these difficult times, if you are inclined to do so, donations can be made to the National Alliance for mental Illness (NAMI) and please joining the National Organ Donor Registry (organdonorgov).
