Dr. James Lee Binder was born in Los Angeles California on May 4, 1944 to Lieutenant Colonel Ray James Binder and Agnes Moran Foster. Jim graduated from Oak Ridge High School in Orlando, Florida. He then went on to graduate from the University of Alabama and Emory University with a degree in Dentistry.
Jim planted his roots in Marietta, GA which he would come to call home, and established a very successful practice there (which of course allowed him time to play golf). Jim traveled the world playing different golf courses with his friends, but Jim‘s biggest passion was for his family. He was a wonderful brother, husband, father, and grandpa.
More than anything, we will all remember Jim for his love of family, loyalty to his friends, and compassion for others.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Agnes Binder and his daughter, Liza Binder and his wife, Leslie Binder. His death is mourned by Kathryn Gersmehl (daughter), Drew Gersmehl (son-in-law), Anna and Andrew Gersmehl (grandchildren), Sandy Binder (sister) and Jane Bennett (sister-in-law), Kathy Carlson and Robin Dunbar (sisters-in-law), and his many adoring nieces and nephews. Finally, we cannot forget Jim’s four-legged son “Nugget” who was a trusted companion through thick and thin.
The family will welcome guests as we celebrate his life from 2:00 - 4:00 pm on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at The Atlanta Country Club in Marietta, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jim’s name to either The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or The American Parkinson’s Disease Association. Learn more about Parkinson’s Disease, and ways to donate, please visit here:
