Always remember and cherish all the happy moments with your loving father.  He will be forever remembered for his kind, gentle nature.  My thoughts and prayer are with you during this time of sadness.  

As a kid, instead of going to summer camp, I spent my summers with my grandfather and grandmother mostly at the dry cleaning shop they owned. Monday through Saturday we would wake up at the crack of dawn to open up the shop and leave late to head home. He was the hardest working man I’ve ever met and put a lot of care and attention in the work he did. Spending my summers with them was better than summer camp because I learned what strong work ethic looked like and the importance of my Chinese heritage. 

I’m so grateful that my grandparents were a huge part of my life. We would go to dim sum every Sunday (he loved the beef noodles and cha siu bao), and trips to Disney and Six Flags. 

 As I write this so many great and happy memories with my grandfather flood my mind. I loved the conversations he and I would have while he drove me to ballet or to get my allergy shot. He wasn’t a dog lover and didn’t like Maddie at first, but grew fond of her and allowed her to come over to their house and he fed her food from the table. Before the corona virus they couldn’t go out due to health conditions so we would bring food to them every Sunday to keep the dim sum tradition going.  Joseph and I brought dim sum one Sunday and one of my favorite memories, which I will never forget, is him lighting up and being so happy to see the food that he asked if it was his birthday!

Then COVID-19 happened and I was sad we couldn’t continue our weekly lunches and walks at their house. But I’m so grateful that I had so many wonderful memories with my grandfather. He has been there for all of my milestones, big and small, from ballet recitals, graduations, my wedding and he came over for dinner to see our first house. 

Thank you yeh yeh for being such a huge part of my life and making me who I am today. I miss you so much, but I know you’re having the best time in heaven eating roasted duck and vanilla ice cream, playing mah jong and watching Chinese TV.
