Joyce lived a full and generous life rooted in faith, love, and service to others. She found joy in many hobbies including gardening, sewing, cooking, jogging, and singing in church choirs.
She was a dedicated choir member at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta for 15 years, and at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church for 20 years where she was a devoted member at the time of her passing. She was a cherished part of the Grayson Sunday School class. Joyce also shared her faith by teaching Sunday School in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Throughout her life, Joyce held a variety of roles, from teaching elementary school and working for a dentist, to selling real estate in San Antonio, Texas. Her passion for helping others and her love for life were evident in all she did.
Joyce's faith was central to her life. Her favorite Bible verses were Proverbs 3:5–6 and John 3:16. She often expressed her deep love for the Lord and her desire to live in a way that honored Him.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, N. Seldon Brown, to whom she was a devoted and loving wife. Joyce is survived by her daughters Debbie Koenig (Ron) and Angela Brown (Beth); her grandchildren Kevin, Wes and Lindsey; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Joyce was an insulin-dependent diabetic for 69 years. She was presented with two prestigious awards during that time from the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston Massachusetts: the Triumph Quarter Century Award – Man and Medicine for living with diabetes in good health for 25 years and the Victory 50 Years Award – Insulin, Exercise and Diet for 50 years of courageous living with diabetes.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Joyce’s name to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org, in honor of her life and her journey with insulin-dependent diabetes.
Joyce's legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
