Robert (Bob) Reardon passed peacefully at 87 years of age in Marietta, GA on Thursday, January 8, 2015, surrounded by family. He lived a long and happy life with Tommie, his wife of 60 years, focusing on time spent with family and friends. He and Tommie traveled around the world enjoying many adventures and meeting interesting people. Throughout his life he enjoyed sailing, reading, and teaching his children and grandchildren many life skills through creative projects. Bob and Tommies’s children and grandchildren enjoyed his sailing lessons every summer on his sailboat, the Sassy Brat II. Along with the sailing lessons, he also taught each of them the secret to cooking the perfect lobster and New England clam chowder. Born in 1927 at his family home in Medway, Massachusetts, he was the middle of five sons of John Henry and Margaret Caroline (Wilson) Reardon. Here, he and his brothers maintained on a daily basis the village’s US flag in the memorial park across the street. During World War II, Bob attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy graduating with a B.S. in Marine Engineering with honors. He continued his education at Providence College with a B.A. in English Literature with honors. He then served in the US Navy as the Chief Engineer on the USS Adrian during the Korean War and separated two years later as a Lt. in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Bob was a life member of the American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution, the Knights of Columbus, and the NAPL Soderstrom Society, as well as an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church of East Cobb. After a 20 year career culminating as President at Dexter Press in West Nyack, NY, the world’s largest printer of natural color postcards, he moved his family in 1978 to the Atlanta area where he became Vice President of Corporate Development at Stevens Graphics, from which he retired. In retirement, Bob and his wife, Tommie, founded a printing brokerage business, which they maintained for more than twenty-five years. He honed his photographic skills while Tommie created the graphic designs, leading to the creation of several thousand pictures published as post cards, guide books, and pictorial calendars, primarily of scenes in the Caribbean Islands where their expertise became well known. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Tommie (Thomasina D.), his children Tom Reardon of Marietta, GA, Robert Reardon, Jr. of Manlius, NY, Patricia Weber of Fountain Valley, CA, Aileen Hahne of Annapolis, MD, and Dan Reardon of Atlanta, GA, fifteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren as well as his brothers William F. Reardon of Medway, Mass and Judge Joseph J. Reardon, ret., of Centerville, Mass. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, John H., Jr. and Edward C. Reardon. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 13, from 6:00-8:00PM at HM Patterson, Canton Hill Chapel, Old Canton Rd, Marietta, GA. The funeral mass in celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, January 14, at 11:00AM, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Bishop Lake Rd, Marietta, GA.
