

Born in 1947 in Greenville, Texas, Steve spent his early years moving around the country before settling in Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended Dykes High School. After graduating from Auburn University in 1969 with a degree in Accounting, he was drafted into the Army and served as an MP at Fort Meade. Steve then began his career as an auditor with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, where he met his future wife, Nan.
Above all else, Steve was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his loved ones. He was a proud father and grandfather who enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren's various activities, going on family vacations, and cheering on his beloved Auburn Tigers. Steve also cherished his time with his friends, traveling, and hiking.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nan Maier, his three children Brian (Aimee) Maier, Alison (Niclas) Skrifvars, and Jennifer (Brian) Smith, 4 granddaughters, 1 grandson, his sister Sharon (Wally) Martin, sister-in-law Leiann (Matt) Frederick, brother-in-law John, and 6 nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Henry W. Maier, mother Jean K Maier, and beloved Aunt Madge Adkisson of Greenville, TX.
A celebration of life service will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Marietta on January 29 at 11:00 a.m. This is preceded by visitation at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Kennesaw Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or Mt Zion United Methodist Church.
Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and he will always be remembered for his kindness, love, and zest for life.
