Walter Lee "Sandy" Sandlin, Jr. age 86, of Marietta, Georgia, died in the early morning on Good Friday, April 15, 2022. Sandy (his nickname from boyhood) was born to Walter and Ruth (Moore) Sandlin in Dixon, Mississippi on December 13, 1935. Sandy grew up in Miami, Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida, followed by a Masters degree in Geology from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Sandy was a leader and an entrepreneur, rising quickly into sales management positions in Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company (1960-1976) and then starting and running two successful Atlanta-based businesses- Air Specialists, Inc (1975 -1989) and Tasco, Inc. (1990-2000). Upon retiring from business at age 65, he immediately began an art career, selling his paintings at arts and crafts shows for the next 15 years.
The son of a carpenter, Sandy was skilled working with wood, and his other hobbies included photography, gardening, reading and spending time with his family.
Sandy had a clear testimony of faith. At age 84, he described his trust in God, and that of his wife, Barbara, in this way: "Our belief and practice of our faith in Jesus sustains us in all we do...we are believers and know for sure our destiny when we breathe our last."
Sandy is survived by his wife, Barbara (Muller) Sandlin, the love of his life throughout 63 years of marriage, and his children: Shelley, Mark, Kim and Karen; grandchildren: Logan, Kylie, Austin, Brook, Alisa, Aaron, Connor, Cade and great-grandson, Rowan. He is also survived by his brother Richard and 6 nieces and nephews.
In lieu of a memorial service, a family celebration and remembrance of Sandy's life will be held in late May.
