

He was born June 8, 1926 in McDowell County, NC to the late Edgar S. Forney and Ruth Kincaid Forney. Mr. Forney was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy and played for the first Negro Baseball Team. He was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church where he was active in the Men’s Club. Mr. Forney retired from Baxter Healthcare Inc. He loved hunting, fishing and playing B.I.N.G.O.
In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Charles Forney.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Mary Virginia Martin Forney of the home; his son, Christopher E. Forney of Marion; his daughter, Mary R. Patterson and husband, Lester “Mike” of Marion; seven grandchildren, Mikkel E. Patterson, Marquis Patterson, Kenya Forney, Jaren Forney, Mia Norwood, Shannon Logan and Monica Smith; three great-grandchildren, Doran Norwood, Daron Norwood and Imani Smith; two great-great-grandchildren, Shayla and Taylor Shell; and a host of special friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church with Elder Herbert Grant, Dr. Charlene Hemphill and Rev. Carl Manual Rev. Monty Miller officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
