Robert Vincent Horton Jr.

On January 26th the world lost a great man, one of the greatest men I have ever known”. Born in Marion in 1925, Bob lived a life dedicated to the service of his fellow man. He spent two tours of duty during WWII serving in the South Pacific. Once home for the war, Bob continued his military service as part of the Air Force Reserves for 20 years. His career as a rural postal officer allowed him to touch many lives of the people of McDowell County. When not delivering the mail he could be found at West Marion United Methodist Church or at Horton’s Grocery Store.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Vince and Beulah Horton,his wife of 66 years, Mary, and sister Vivian England. He is survived by son Robert and daughter-in-law Fran, son Keith and daughter-in-law Maria; grandchildren Chris Reberg-Horton, Kathleen Horton and Jennifer Reed; 3 great grandchildren, Samuel and Layla Horton and Jacob Reed; and brother, Russell Horton.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at West Marion United Methodist Church at 11:00am, the family will receive friends following the services.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Marion United Methodist Church, C/O Judy P. Davis, Treasurer, 248 Wall Pool Road, Marion, NC 28752.
