Shirley Gibbs DeViney

Mrs. Shirley Gibbs DeViney, 70, of Nebo, passed away, Monday, September 8, 2014. Born December 6, 1943, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Tallmadge Gibbs and Maudie Louise Gibbs. Mrs. DeViney was a graduate of Nebo High School where she played varsity basketball. She served on the Alumni Board, coordinating class reunions for several years. She served as an assistant Manager for American General for several years. She regularly participated in Relay for Life events. Later, as a grandmother, she coached local basketball and cheerleading teams. Always a leader, she looked for opportunities to mentor and participate in local events.

Mrs. DeViney is survived by her husband, Fred Grant DeViney, Jr., of Nebo;

Two sons, David Cannon and wife, Cathy of Locust, NC and

Jeff DeViney and wife, Susan, of Sherrell’s Ford, NC;

A daughter, Donna Cannon, of Nebo;

Seven grandchildren, Erin White, Morgan Lytle, Jordan Cannon, Chris DeViney, Brian DeViney, Sarah DeViney And Mary Beth DeViney; three great grandchildren also survive Mrs. DeViney.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 11, 2014, in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, with the Reverend Eddie Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment will follow at the McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
