Donald E. Eissler

Donald E. Eissler, 81 formerly of Evansville, passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester where he had resided for the last several years. Mr. Eissler was an Insurance Salesman for several years and previously taught Speech and Drama at the Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville. Don was a 1948 graduate of Reitz Memorial High School. He received his Bachelors degree and Masters of Education from Indiana University in Bloomington. While at IU he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, the IU Student Foundation and was President of the Student Body. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Evansville First Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder and directed several music programs. He was a member of the Shrine for several years and was an accomplished pianist.
Don was born on October 12, 1930 in Evansville a son of Edward W. and Etta M. (Cheshire) Eissler. He was united in marriage to Margaret Troyer in June 1952 in Evansville. She preceded him in death on December 23, 2001.
Survivors include – a daughter: Mrs. Steve (Lisa) Best of Roanoke; 3 grandchildren: Trisha Shields, Amy Best and Jason Best; 2 great grandchildren: Colin and Ava. He was preceded in death by 2 sons: Chris and David Eissler and 2 sisters: Peggy and Doris Eissler.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2011 from 2 – 6 PM at the Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee Street, Markle, IN 46770. There will also be Visitation on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the First Christian Church in Evansville, 2845 Beaumont Dr., Evansville, IN 47725.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 1 PM at the First Christian Church in Evansville with Pastor Mitch Stichler officiating.
Entombment will take place in the Alexander Memorial Park in Evansville.
Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Myers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 403, Markle, IN 46770.
