The heart of our home has been called up above and the hearts are all heavy of the people you loved. But the courage you gave us will help us be strong and the love that you gave us will help us go on.
Our beautiful mother, grandmother, wife, stepmother, sister, aunt, and cousin went home with her hairbrush and makeup in hand to be with her Lord and Savior on March 10, 2023. Becky passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home surrounded by family.
Becky was born to Benjamin and Isobel Polk on August 19, 1949, in Brady Tx. Becky always said that growing up in Pontotoc, Tx was the stuff that dreams were made of. Running on the creek, exploring caves, hunting arrowheads, moving irrigation pipes for Bennie’s peanuts, digging frog tunnels, and swinging on grapevines with her brother Lloyd Polk, sister Connie Polk Cribbs, cousins, and childhood friends that became lifelong friends, were some of the best years of her life.
Becky’s childhood home was a place where many friends and family gathered, and it was the place that everyone always wanted to be. As Becky built her life with her family, she filled each home with that same warmth and love as her childhood home and the “Wilton Hilton” and “Haak Shack” were the places that everyone also wanted to be. Many who shared meals at her table still request her famous goulash. Becky was blessed with the gift of hospitality where her home was always open to anyone, a hot meal would accompany your visits (including salad), and by the time you left you felt as though you were family.
Becky graduated from Mason High School in Mason, Tx in 1967. After graduation Becky attended Tarleton State University where she met and married the father of her children T.A. Wilton. Their marriage was blessed with four beautiful children Cody, Jana, Jody, and Cory. Becky devoted her life to her children and her children’s friends. Every holiday, special occasion, and family reunion was made memorable and celebrated to the fullest. One of her greatest joys came from time spent in the barn on St. Paul Road and watching her children tend to and raise their livestock animals for show.
Becky and T.A. lived, worked, and raised their children in Marlin, Tx. Becky was an employee of Marlin Elementary School for more than 30 years. During that time Becky served in many different capacities and developed loving, lasting friendships that went beyond the school walls. Becky’s passion while working at the Elementary School was working in the “Print Shop.” As Becky was known for the warm and inviting environment of her home so too did she carry that warmth into her beloved print shop. Music was always playing, sweet aromas filled the room, and fellowship was the cornerstone. Becky had a servant’s heart and went out of her way to make sure others were comfortable and taken care of. Becky was also a founding member of the Alpha Kappa Sigma sorority in Marlin, Tx where she continued to form lifelong, treasured friendships. Later in life Becky remarried and remained in Marlin, Tx. Becky married Charles Haak Jr. and together they enjoyed the slower pace of living in the country.
Becky was a simple person with simple pleasures in life. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sitting on the front porch sharing memories, listening to old country music, writing poetry, and faithfully serving the Lord. Becky was a warrior in every sense of the word. She was determined to never give up no matter the struggle and she faced each challenge with a grace and beauty that was only her. Becky’s grandchildren were her pride and joy and the moments spent together reading stories or riding in the car listening to White Lightning were closest to her heart. The legacy that she leaves behind for each of them will remain forever.
Over the years Becky touched the hearts of so many and the numerous amount of friends she had is a testament to the kind of woman she was. There will forever be an emptiness in those she left behind and a void that can never be filled. To the world she was just one person but to all of us she was the world.
Becky is survived by her husband Charles Haak Jr., son Cody Wilton & Kathy Wooley, daughter Jana Wilton, son Cory Wilton and fiancé Jodi Bartlett, daughter in love Ashley Wilton, stepdaughter Jennifer Wilson, stepson Preston Haak, sister Connie Cribbs and husband J.C. Cribbs, sister in law Doris Polk, grandchildren Kaylin Wilton, Hayden Wilton, and Heston Wilton, step grandchildren, Calan Haak, Tanner Haak, and Caden Haak, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Isobel Polk, brother Lloyd Polk, and son Jody Wilton.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Fedro, Kristi Rosas, Starlyn Giles, Tiffany Hunsaker, Katrina Abernathy, Christian Cave, Barbara Wooley, and Susan McMains for the care and love shown to our beautiful mother.
There will never be another beautiful soul like our Mother, Granny, MamaBecky, GranBecky, Aunt Becky, Auntie, and Grand Aunt Becky. We were beyond blessed to call you ours.
