Ms. Bertha Jackson Galathe

Bertha Jackson Galathe entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 5, 2014. She was 101 years old. Loving mother of Jackie Thomas (Ella), Brenda Nelson, Bernard Nelson, Julia Robinson, Joseph Robertson, and Joseph Ratliff (Cynthia). Daughter of the late John and Alice Jackson. Sister of the late Sarah Garrett, Alice Smith, John Jackson, and Dankum Jackson. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Working as a housekeeper, she played an instrumental role in raising members of two families, the Cowens (3) and Killeens (5). She was a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a longtime member of Gloryland Mount Gillion, where she sang in the choir, and later joined Second Zion Baptist Church #2 where she was president of the Usher Board #1. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She faithfully served her Lord and her community. Relatives and Friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service from Second Zion Baptist Church #2, 3333 Third Street, New Orleans on Thursday Morning, May 15, 2014 at 11:00.
