Desmond Joseph Guilbeau, Jr., known as “Pookie” “Brother” and “Big Unc” passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Friday, February 8, 2019. Born in Marrero, Louisiana on January 25, 1949 to the late Desmond Joseph, Sr. and Mary Grace Aucoin Guilbeau. He was the cherished brother of Carol A. Guilbeau, Elizabeth Guilbeau Burdwell (the late Rodney P. Barrileaux), the late Joanne E. Guilbeau Matherne (Jimmy Matherne, Sr.) and the late Sharon M. Guilbeau Belestra (Joe Belestra). Desmond will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews as well as extended family and dear friends. The Guilbeau family would like to extend their gratitude to Mrs. Sarah Guillory for all of her compassion and care over the past year as well as Serenity Hospice for their care and service. Desmond was a great provider and beloved family man who adored all of his sisters, nieces and nephews. He was a lifetime fisherman who was known for being a jokester and was often seen playing the tables at Boomtown. A dedicated employee in security for over ten years, Desmond also worked for Ray Brandt Nissan as a parts driver for thirteen years. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services being held at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home located at 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 1:00pm. Visitation will be held from 10:00a-1:00pm. Burial at Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale will follow.
