Elaine Anderson Thomassie of Marrero, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the age of 81. She was married to Sherriel "Pookie" Thomassie for 61 loving years. Devoted mother of Kirt J. Thomassie, Sr. (Carrie) and Chad J. Thomassie, Sr. (Peggy). Grandmother of Kirt Jr. (Whitney), Kelly Rogers (Roy), David (Kayla), Hunter, Chad Jr., and Brice, as well as her great grandchildren Christian, Rhett, Roy IV, Royce, Rory, and Remy. Sister of Faye Anderson Avants. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Francis and Madeline Anderson and her siblings, Robert "Bobby" Anderson (Mary), Linda Anderson Keller, and Melinda Anderson. Elaine is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends who will miss her dearly.
Elaine was a wonderful housewife and was able to work from home for many years to help run the family business, Thomassie Electric. After her kids started school she went to work for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office as a Police Dispatcher and then later worked at several different Jefferson Parish School Cafeteria's as a Cook until she retired.
Elaine did not have the word "no" in her vocabulary, she always said "yes" to anyone that needed any help with anything. Over the years she often volunteered to help care for many family members and friends who were sick.
During the time when her children were teenagers and young adults she opened her home to all of their friends. Every weekend she would have a house full of them, but she loved it and offered them a safe place to hang out while keeping them all out of trouble. This group of friends, who was more like family, was called the Shakeys Gang. Even during her older years she often spoke about the fun times she had with this group of friends.
Elaine completely enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She always tried to make it to as many of the sports events that they participated in and she made sure she was the loudest fan cheering from the bleachers. She volunteered to work at the Kings Grant concession stand when her children were kids and she volunteered to work at the Gretna BMX concession stand when her grandchildren were kids. She was always the babysitter to all of her grandchildren so that they did not have to attend daycare and so they could be cared for by a loving grandmother.
Some of the other things Elaine enjoyed was playing bingo and also watching game shows & reality shows on TV. Another thing she truly enjoyed was volunteering for several weeks each year with a group of family and friends to prepare Italian cookies for the Saint Joseph Altar in Lafitte and she helped decorate the that altar beautifully.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, September 27th, 2024 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana. A visitation will begin at 9:00AM and continue until the service time. Elaine will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Westwego, Louisiana.
