Katherine "Kathy" May Benezech Ferret, age 77, entered into eternal rest peacefully in her sleep on April 15, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband, retired Sgt.Maj.James "Jim" J. Ferret, her parents retired Col.Edward P. Benezech, Jr. and Katherine Boudreau Benezech, her two sisters Janet B. Stipe and Susan B. Morgan, nephew Lance E. Benezech and dear friend Barbara Purpera. Kathy was born on March 19, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana and resided most of her life in Chalmette, Louisiana until moving into SummerHouse Ashton Manor Memory Care in Luling. She is survived by her brother Maj. Edward P. Benezech, III (Sheryl), brother-in-law Paul D. Stipe, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
After attending St. Maurice Grammar School and graduating from Annunciation High School, Kathy worked as a civilian employee for the Army National Guard in Chalmette for 9 years. It was there she met the love of her life and future husband, Jim.
Kathy loved spending time with family and friends whether traveling, playing games, assembling puzzles or going to luncheons. She especially enjoyed traveling to Houston, Texas to visit her long time best friend, Barbara Purpera. Her hobbies and interests were tennis, reading, baking, line dancing and animals. It was her talent for baking that led her to divert her occupation to a lucrative career in baking cakes and catering with her husband. Upon Jim’s death she made a pivot in her profession, joining the staff at Our Lady of Prompt Succor School in Chalmette. Although she had no children of her own, her love of kids was obvious as she walked through the halls with her perpetual smile, open arms, and loving heart for her OLPS family. Her retirement came in 2016 when early stages of Alzheimer’s were evident.
Kathy was known to be a hard worker and a devoted wife, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend. We are thankful for our time together and she will be sadly missed. We will think of her often and forever hold her memory near and dear to our heart. Until we meet again our sweet angel.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to recommend you donate to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
