Leonard Patrick Hidalgo departed this life on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 9:55 PM; just 8 weeks before his 80th birthday. He was surrounded by his three beloved children, Perry, Rhonda, and David, and his beloved wife of 49 years, Marjorie Marque Hidalgo.
Leonard was born in September of 1931 to Leona Marie Bergeron and Leonce J. Hidalgo, Jr. and lived in Assumption Parish until he moved with his parents and younger siblings, Ernest and Barbara to the New Orleans area. It was Barbara who introduced him to his beloved Marjorie, whom he married in 1962 and raised their family in Marrero, LA. He was the proud grandfather of Kade, Aiden, Ethan, and Kyle, and was honored to be known as “Paw Paw” to Skylar McDougald.
Leonard proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War. He worked at Continental Can Co. as an inspector where he met his best friend, Jimmy Stein, and many of his lifelong friends. When the plant closed in 1975, he went to work as a route salesman for Marque’s Foods. He enjoyed the friendship of many that he met on his route. He retired in 1997 and spent much of his time refinishing furniture, listening to music, enjoying the company of his friends and visiting the home of his cousins, Trudy and A.J. on Bayou Lafouche where he loved to be.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his niece Kelly, all of whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his wife; sister; children; their spouses Leah and Lauren; his grandchildren, brothers-in-law Robert DiFacio, Gary and Wilie Marque; nieces Kim, Stephanie, and Suzanne; and nephews Kevin, Daniel, and Steven.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Our Lady of Wisdom especially Loretta and his devoted caregiver Gloria Travis for their compassionate care and friendship to the family.
In Lieu of flowers, masses are preferred or a donation to a charity for the benefit of children.
