Lethia Ann Pizani, age 71, of Mandeville, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2024, following a brief and fearless battle against cancer. She was the eldest child of Calvin Joseph Pizani, Sr. and Shirley Fabre Pizani (Machella). Born April 4, 1953, in New Orleans and raised in Barataria, La. At the age of nine, following the tragic loss of her father, the family moved to Bootheville/Venice, residing there, until returning to Barataria after Hurricane Camille. She attended Barataria Elementary, Delta Heritage Academy, and L.W. Higgins High School. She married in 1972 at the age of nineteen. In 1978 and 1980, her daughters were born. Finding herself a single mother of two young daughters in 1982, she pursued additional educational opportunities through Delgado Community College, earning her Basic Emergency Medical Technician Certification in 1983. She served the community of Lafitte, Barataria and Crown-Point as an EMT prior to switching gears first into Medical Office Management, then Residential Management. Remarrying in 1988, a home environment that was welcoming to all was the centerpiece of family life for immediate and extended family. As a resident of Roquette Lodge she took great pride in assisting with social gatherings and volunteering in the office. She enjoyed travel, especially with the “Golden Girls,” music, concerts, and any performance that featured her grandchildren.
In addition to her grandparents (Joseph Gabriel Pizani, Atrice Duet, Whitney and Augusta Marie Fabre), her parents, and step-father (James "Taco" Machella), she was predeceased by her great-niece, Rylee Grace Pizani. Survivors include her daughters, Raven Moore, and her husband Kenny, Darrah Caplan, and her husband Ben; four grandchildren, Liam Moore, Evi Moore, Izaac Caplan, and Nathan Caplan. Her siblings, Myron “Goo” Pizani (Arleen), Calvin “CJ” Pizani, Jr. (Allison), James “Jimmy” Machella, Jr., and Jerri Jo Serpas (CJ); nephews and nieces, Ron, Dane, Hayley, JJ, Tocky, Amber, Maddie, Whitney, Fallon, a host of god-children, their spouses and children, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and very dear friends.
A celebration and remembrance of her life is planned for Saturday April 27, 2024, at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home (5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA) at 2pm. The family requests that we honor her wishes for a celebration, not a day of mourning. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation to support research and improved treatment options for this rare and aggressive cancer. https://cholangiocarcinoma.org/giving-to-the-cholangiocarcinoma-foundation/
