Lottie “Nanny” Cheramie Bennett of Terrytown, Louisiana, passed away unexpectedly on September 26th, 2022 at 2:28 PM of heart failure, at Oschner Medical Center in Jefferson, Louisiana. She was born October 13th, 1956, Lottie was 65 years young when she gained her angel wings. She was born in New Orleans, but grew up in Lafitte, Louisiana. She was a 1974 graduate of Higgins High School in Marrero, Louisiana. Lottie was the daughter of the late Narris L. Cheramie and Zelma Agoff Cheramie. She is preceded in death by her son Seth Leo Coleman, who passed away in 2002. Lottie is survived by her husband of 27 years, James "Jim" Bennett, Sr. Lottie also leaves behind her two sisters, Clothidle “Clo” Cobert and Nettla “Net” Carmedelle (Randy) and her brother Norris “Mex” Cheramie Sr. She is preceded in death by her siblings Donald Cooper (Fay) and Karen Touchard (Gene).
Lottie was warmingly known as “Nanny”. Anyone that had the opportunity to get to know her, loved her and immediately felt like part of her family. She touched many lives and she was happy to have and teach every one of them; especially Lainey B. Cheramie and Heather Walker. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends that she was a mother figure to such as: Norris J. Cheramie Jr. (Andrea), Heather Walker, Brooke Cheramie (Jen), James Bennett Jr. (Jayme), Heather Bennett (Pete), the late Kelly Bennett, Winnie Hernandez (Hector), Andre’ Mochon (Mary), and Eliska Juarez. She had many grandchildren and those that she treated as her own: Kyle Elliott, Chance Cheramie, Jonas Cheramie, Lainey Cheramie, Trey Bennett, Madalyn Bennett, Joseph Edwards, Rin Bennett, Kaitlyn Bennett, Ernie Helmer, Julia Hernandez, Jayden Elliott, Jordan Seth Elliott, Carlos Juarez Jr., Carissa Juarez, Grace Mochon, Partick Mochon, and Henry Mochon. She also loved and cared deeply for her church family at Heritage Bible Church and Lighthouse Baptist Church, and her friends at Ingalls Shipyard.
To sum up “Nanny’s” life, once she babysat you, you were her baby forever. She never forgot a face. Nanny always had a smile for you, and would cook for you even if you did not ask. She loved to feed people.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude for all who have helped her along in her journey through this life.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 12:30 PM on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana. Words of Remembrance will be shared, starting at 11:00AM. The service will process from the funeral home to Westlawn Cemetery. Lottie will be laid to rest with her beloved son, Seth.
