Fuck Canada! My gorgeous husband said that's the first thing I had to write in his obituary when he passed away. Mario Isidoro Magaña died in a head-on collision near his home in Carriere, MS on Monday, January 20, 2025, the night before his 33rd birthday and sneauxmageddon, which he was looking forward to. He really loved Canada and the snow. It was an inside joke. If you were lucky enough to know him, you would understand that NOTHING was off limits. Mario was hilarious and kind, quiet and yet the life of every party. He had a big, beautiful smile and a contagious laugh, and always an inappropriate joke.
He enjoyed traveling and big adventures, like eating Fois Gras in Paris. Dancing the night away in Spain. Swimming in Cenotes in Mexico. And sleeping on the beach with me underneath cotton candy skies in Puerto Rico. Seeing the Aurora Borealis in Iceland was on his bucket list, and he did it. He carved our names on a wooden beam at a bar in Cuba. And climbed Mayan Ruins with his son in his beloved Belize, the country of his heritage. A thousand beach days with us and the kids was how he spent his free time. Always making sure the next trip was booked so we had something to look forward to. It was Thailand next.
He was the most attentive and playful, loving and proud daddy to his red head boy, Little Mario Isidoro Magaña III. He named his company after him, Tres Movers. Being a dad is what made Mario happiest and he was the absolute best. He was amazed and honored to watch his "girlie" Ellajolie grow up to be such a firecracker. He appreciated every laugh, serious conversation, and occasional shot with the older kids, Julian, Torrin, and Caden. Mario was truly the most passionate, attentive, and incredible husband to me, his wife, woman, and his lady, Faye Verdin Magaña. I am forever grateful to be his Mrs. Magaña.
He owned Tres Movers, taking pride in following his father, Mario Magaña's footsteps. Always making sure to be a helpful, respectful son to his Pops in every way he could. He was also Vice-President and the backbone of his dad's company, MGM Movers Inc. Mario had so much love left to give to his big sister, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Magaña Hickman, who he had so many precious memories with. He was always proud to be able to say he got some Cajun blood from his mom, Molly Mayeaux Charles. Mario enjoyed debates with his Primo, Mark Paternostro and also the many tequila shots and jokes that followed, and loved trips to Tennessee only because he got a chance to see his step-father, Waldo Charles.
Mario went out of his way for so many and it was never a problem. He took everything in stride. No issue, he would help. He loved hanging out with his friends and recently ran the Jackson Day Race as part of the Goose Tribe. He was even signed up for the Crescent City Classic. Mario loved being a crawfish cooking expert and had a serious grill master flex. Always throwing some steaks and carne asada down for his friends and family. Holidays, Mardi Gras, and tubing will never be the same without him.
He cared deeply for everyone he knew and worked hard to provide a beautiful life for us and the kids. Nothing will ever compare to his charisma and charm. He made sure of that by being the best there was. He has so much family between the States and Belize that will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his Abuelo, Isidoro Magaña, his Abuela, Viola Garcia Magaña, his step-son Torrin Strickland, his mother-in-law, Faye Planche, and his best friend, Mason McStay. He attended school at St. Christopher Catholic School and graduated from Ridgewood Prep.
In lieu of flowers, I request that you take a moment to write down a memory or two and when you come, add it to the album for Little Mario to read when he is older. It can be crazy, we're OK with that.
I would love for his friends and family to join us for a time of visitation for him at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. We will have a service in the Chapel of the funeral home for him at 4:00 PM. The music playing reflects his own eclectic playlist.
