

Nolan J. Bruce passed away on March 5, 2026 at the age of 86. He was born in Cut Off, Louisiana to the late Victor and Ada Bruce. Loving wife of Valerie Bruce of 66 years. Loving father of Cynthia Dupre (Jeff). Proud grandfather of Ricky Porrovecchio, Jr. (Ashley), Nolan Cantrelle, Valerie Cantrelle. Great-grandfather of Tyler (Allorah), Ricky III, Lily, Daymon, Dylan, Layla and Tripp. Great-great grandfather of Lennon, Lovelyn and Aldon. Brother of Robert Bruce (Debbie), Debra Blanchard and the late Nora Cronley (Jimmy) and Catherine Danos (Black). Nolan was also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Nolan was awarded the prestigious Saint Louis Medallion Award in recognition of his many years of dedicated service to his church and community.
A longtime parishioner of Holy Guardian Angel Church in Bridge City, Nolan faithfully served in numerous ministries throughout the years. He was especially proud of serving as a Eucharistic minister and lector, generously sharing his time and faith with fellow parishioners.
Beyond his parish involvement, Nolan was also honored in the community as King Creole Gumbo XXIV, celebrating his connection to the traditions and culture of the area.
Nolan has been an active member of the Knights of Columbus Peter Wynhoven Council 3091 in Westwego for more than 50 years. During that time, he held several leadership roles including Grand Knight and financial secretary, along with many other positions in service to the council.
In addition to his church and community service, Nolan dedicated 28 years of service to the United States Post Office, where he received a recognition award honoring his commitment and long-standing career.
Nolan also loved cooking for his family and community. He took great pride in preparing meals for seniors once a month with the Golden Guardians and for the Senior Center in Bridge City. He enjoyed spending time at the camp with his family, fishing and trawling. Most of all, Nolan cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His lifelong dedication to faith, family, work, and community continues to inspire all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Nolan on Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero as well at on Monday, March 9, 2026 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am and interment will immediately follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale.
