

Ambassador Ruth D. Samonte Limjuco passed away on August 17, 2025 at the age of 89. She was born on November 10, 1935 in Laoag City, Philippines to the late Dr. Damaso and Paz Samonte. Ruth was the devoted wife of the late Antonio S. Limjuco, Sr. Loving mother of Lisa Daoussis, Denise Hera (Jorge), Antonio Limjuco, Jr., Jonathan Limjuco (Linda) and Michael Limjuco (Jennifer). Proud grandmother of Jenna, Christina, Caroline, Blake, Logan, Olivier and Samantha. Sister of Helen Shippy Samonte, and the late Sigrid Verano, Robert Samonte, Jack Samonte and Juanita Samonte. Ruth is also survived by Melissa Limjuco, and many nieces and nephews.
Ambassador Limjuco was a dedicated and tireless advocate for migrant women workers and children. Her life was a testament to compassion, service and unwavering faith. Her journey was marked by a profound commitment to improving the lives of marginalized communities. She led the Beijing Platform for Action during the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. She had always championed initiatives related to women’s rights and global developments.
Ruth enjoyed shopping, crossword puzzles, and Swiss chocolate. However, raising her children while working full time as a career diplomat and spending time with her grandchildren were her proudest moments. Ruth was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Ruth on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. Catholic service will begin at 1:00 PM and interment will immediately follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna.
